Species Encyclopedia: Colorful Angelfish

Colorful angelfish, also known as yellow-brown plate cichlid, Tal's plate cichlid, Perciformes cichlids, subfamily Pan cichlid. Although it is also called "angel fish", it is far from the relatives of the angelfish (the angelfish is the genus Angelfish, and the colorful angelfish is the genus Panichthys). They are crowned as "the king of tropical ornamental fish" for their complete and unique shape, rich and colorful patterns, flashing and changing colors, and elegant and graceful swimming. This variety is a variant of the colorful angelfish. Originally, the number of wild species was very rare. After continuous selection and hybridization, many new varieties have been produced from the original 4 species. The body of the fish is nearly disc-shaped and flat, and the body color is divided into red, green, blue-green, and blue. The body color changes under the influence of light. When the light is dark, the body color is dark; when the light is bright, the color is bright and rich, and the body is full of stripes. Its name also has different names due to different colors, such as red turquoise, blue turquoise, royal green and so on. The male fish in the same group is larger than the female fish, and the female fish has a wider abdomen and lays 200-300 eggs each time. Adult fish have a mixed diet, and larvae live by sucking the mucus on the broodstock. Can be used as a good ornamental fish, but it is more difficult to keep than other fish and requires a large aquarium. They are high-temperature and high-oxygen fish, and the water temperature needs to be maintained between 26-30 °C every year. They have strict requirements on water quality and bait, and prefer weakly acidic soft water. Tranquil waters with lush vegetation and stacked trees and rocks are ideal habitats for them.
