A sika deer in Hubei escaped from the zoo and ran all the way into the Second Ring Road, scaring many car owners

Wild animals that were rarely seen in rural areas in the past are now not unusual in cities. In recent years, animals have continuously appeared on the streets and roads of the city, attracting crowds to watch. For example, there are a lot of wild boars in the mountains and forests around Nanjing. They often break into urban areas and appear in communities, campuses, construction sites, and even shopping malls. The animals that appear in the city are not only from the wild, but sometimes some artificially farmed animals escape the cage and go outside. For example, an ostrich once appeared on the Rongwu Expressway in Shandong. It ran wildly on the road and frightened the owner of the car. The ostrich escaped from the car during transportation. Coincidentally, in an ostrich farm in Fusui County, Chongzuo City, Guangxi, in January 2022, some ostriches also fled and ran to the streets. Recently, many citizens in Wuhan, Hubei Province saw a deer running wildly on the highway on the Yauzhou Yangtze River Bridge. After running forward for a while, it would suddenly "brake" and turn around and run backwards, which scared the passing car owners. have avoided. From the appearance point of view, the hair color of this deer animal is chestnut red, with white spots, the shape is like plum blossoms, and the hair color of the hips is also white, and the preliminary judgment should be a sika deer. Afterwards, experts identified that the animal that appeared on the Parrot Island Yangtze River Bridge was indeed a sika deer, which had escaped from the local zoo. Because of the short guardrail, it jumped out, and then ran all the way into the Second Ring Road and onto the Parrot Island Yangtze River Bridge. At present, the sika deer has been captured and brought back to the zoo.

Sika deer have strong jumping ability, light and agile speed

The sika deer is a small and medium-sized deer, and its weight will not be too large when it is an adult. Large, about 70-100 kg, shoulder height 70-95 cm, body length 120-150 cm. Their coat is mainly chestnut red, but changes with the seasons. For example, in summer, it is a common chestnut red with white spots all over it; in winter, their coat color changes to smoky brown, and the white spots on the top are not obvious. The sexual dimorphism of the sika deer is more obvious. In addition to being larger, the male beast also has huge horns with 4 forks, while the female beast has no double horns. The sika deer have slender limbs, narrow and pointed main hooves, and relatively small side hooves. They have extremely strong jumping ability, can easily cross the fence, and can make continuous large jumps. In addition to jumping, the sika deer are brisk and agile, and are especially good at climbing some steep slopes. However, in terms of ability to climb cliffs and cliffs, they are still inferior to animals such as blue sheep and argali. Unlike other deer species, the sika deer do not live in groups, and males prefer to live alone. Wild sika deer are generally active at dawn and dusk, feeding on some herbs and vines, and occasionally stealing crops. As the seasons change, it's not just the coat color that changes, the living area also changes.

Frightened animals, extremely aggressive

The sika deer gives the impression that it is more "decent" and is a symbol of kindness and integrity. Sika deer in reality are indeed relatively tame, and they look harmless to humans and animals, but they are an animal after all, and they will become extremely aggressive when panicked. It ran out of the zoo and appeared on the main road. Facing the unfamiliar environment and the constant traffic flow, it would only become more nervous. It can be seen from the panic behavior of it running around and changing directions. Once someone approaches, it is likely to further stimulate them, resulting in a stress response and injury to passersby. According to the type of animal wounding, it can be generally divided into two categories: intentional wounding and passion wounding. Intention is well understood, that is, there is subjective intention, such as the former "man-eating tigers" and "man-eating lions", which took humans as prey objects and deliberately hunted humans. Passion hurting people is more random, and it is also the main type of animal hurting people. Most of them are the appearance of people, or provoking them, which leads to attacks. For example, the Siberian tiger "Wandashan No. 1" who broke into Linhu Village in Heilongjiang at that time hurt the villagers while fleeing in a panic. When wild animals stray into human activity areas, they will become highly nervous, easily agitated, and become aggressive in unfamiliar environments. Therefore, when we encounter animals, we must not approach, let alone watch or deal with them privately, but hand them over to the relevant departments to avoid harm. Although sika deer do not have fangs and claws, they use sharp horns to attack. Even a female without horns can cause greater damage when rammed.

Few wild sika deer, but more breeding

The sika deer is a very beautiful deer and is loved by many people. It is native to eastern Asia and has since been introduced to other places such as Europe. From September to October every year, the sika deer is in estrus. During this season, male beasts will mate with multiple female beasts. The gestation period of sika deer is about 30 weeks, and only one child is born each year. One child is usually a fawn. In rare cases, the phenomenon of "twins" occurs. Fawns are independent 10-12 months after birth, but do not reach sexual maturity until 16-18 months. Therefore, compared with wild boars and other ungulates, the reproductive capacity of sika deer is relatively low, and the speed of population development is relatively slow. The sika deer used to be widely distributed in China, and there are traces of their life in most areas such as East China, South China, Central China, Southwest China, and Northeast China. Difficulty, the population also plummeted, and eventually became an endangered animal. They are very rare in the wild. By the end of the 20th century, there were only more than 1,000 wild individuals, which was even rarer than the number of giant pandas in the same period. And the populations are scattered and the habitat is incoherent. Sika deer can be cultivated artificially. There have been mature sika deer breeding places in Liaoning, Jilin and other places. Relatively speaking, the number of artificially cultivated sika deer has reached hundreds of thousands. Sika deer are alert by nature. Although their vision is slightly worse, they have strong sense of hearing and smell, and have a strong ability to detect changes in the surrounding environment. They are timid and easily frightened. Once frightened, they will immediately run away and run very fast. Therefore, it is easy to cause safety hazards when it appears in the downtown or on the highway. Aiming at the fact that the sika deer are good at jumping, it is hoped that the zoo can increase the fence to prevent similar phenomena from recurring. Follow me and make an animal friend.
